Your computer can only understand the machine language which is usually a string of 0s and 1s. Whatever files like docx, image file, etc. all are nothing but a combination of 0's and 1's. Similarly, all computer commands are also in binary code to execute programs inside the CPU. Whenever you are trying to send a file to another computer it is modulated with high-frequency carrier waves for proper transmission and another benefit. if you want to read further about the requirement of modulation, then click here. 

Your computer contains a Wireless card or an inbuilt modem inside. it converts the digital commuter data into analog data by using various modulation techniques. Here, transforming your digital data into an analog one is required for many reasons as follows

  • transmission mediums like wireless channels, copper cables, optical fiber, etc., - all are analog in nature. You can't transmit a digital signal thru an analog medium. why?
  • Modulation is required to multiplex the data.
Now, come to the swathing or switch. You know previously we were using HUBs to broadcast router signals to all computers connected to the same router. If that data's destination address is matched with any computer then it is received by that computer; otherwise, it is discarded. We observed a lot of collisions and bandwidth inefficiency in HUBs. 
Nowadays, we use switches instead of HUBs. Here each device connected to the router is connected through different switches. Switches are usually termed ports (of the router). It is bandwidth efficient as compared to HUBs.

  BER vs. SNR denotes how many bits in error are received in a communication process for a particular Signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio. In most cases, SNR is measured in decibel (dB). For a typical communication system, a signal is often affected by two types of noises 1. Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) 2. Why is Time-bandwidth Product Important?

  To calculate the period of a signal with finite bandwidth, Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle plays a vital role where the time-bandwidth product indicates the processing gain of the signal. We apply spread spectrum techniques in wireless communication for various reasons, such as interference resilience, security, robustness in multipath, etc. But in spread spectrum techniques, we compromise some bandwidth.  The time-bandwidth product for Gaussian-shaped pulses is 0.44 (approx.). If the time-bandwidth product of a signal is >> 1 , then it indicates the usable bandwidth is very much greater than the data rate. So, in this case, we are unable to utilize the whole available bandwidth. For this case, spectrum efficiency will be less. To your knowledge, the product of the variance of time and variance of bandwidth for a Gaussian signal is 0.25, and for a triangular-shaped signal, it is 0.3.

Applications of a Raise Cosine Filter

  For a typical wireless communication system, we use modulation schemes and filters before transmitting the signal. The main purpose of using it is to transmit a proper waveform so that we can recover the signal at the receiving end more accurately.  If the roll-off factor is Î±, then  Bandwidth (B) = (1 + α) / (2 * T) where T is the time interval. The filter response is zero outside that. The roll-off factor is a parameter used to shape the spectrum of a digital signal in communication systems, and it is not just the product of time and bandwidth.
